We are absolutely blown away that 900 of you came and joined us on Mass Ride #9 this morning.
The ride has grown by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, a testament to the number of residents who want to see Winchester “better by bike”.
We now coordinate six feeder rides, including, new for this year, The Barton Line… a continuous infrastructure project, running from Kings Barton via Abbots Barton to the River Park and onwards to the city centre. Cycle Winchester’s Emma Street said the route represented “Winchester’s best chance of getting some proper cycle infrastructure” with minor improvements and signage.
It’s clear that the bike buses that we have been facilitating for the past two years, have inspired many parents and children of the city to make bike journeys part of their everyday life, and many happy young faces filled the streets today. They also enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere at our mini Cyclefest in Abbey Gardens, where children slalomed around obstacle cones, and enjoyed all manner of kids’ activities.
One mum wrote on Facebook: “We had so much fun! Wish every day could be mass ride day!”
