Tomorrow is polling day in Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council elections. Cycle Winchester invited candidates to support the Winchester Cycling Charter, a simple declaration of support for better provision for cycling in the city. We emailed the election agents of each of the parties fielding candidates, and also called out to them via Twitter, noting that that there is already strong support for the charter among local organisations and electorate, especially in the central wards (see image above).
Below we list all of the candidates for WCC and and the Winchester divisions of HCC who have supported the charter.
While our request was that each individual candidate should support the Charter, we should note that some parties expressed collective support.
Winchester Conservatives did not respond to our request and 1 of their 18 candidates has signed the Charter.
Winchester Greens have signed the Charter as an organisation and 8 of their 11 candidates signed individually.
Winchester Labour replied that “All Labour candidates support this project.” and expressly supported the Charter via their local manifesto. 1 of their 19 candidates signed the Charter individually.
Winchester Liberal Democrats : 10 of their 19 candidates signed individually.
One independent candidate, Ian Tait, signed the Charter.
