New connections formed at December’s networking event
Thanks so much to those who joined Cycle Winchester on Monday 2nd December at South Downs Social for a night of networking. A special thank you to our host Neil!
And huge thanks to John Nordon for a fascinating, amusing and discursive keynote talk, which took in customised 20-inch-wheeled bikes and the lamentable state of the property development economy!
Well done to everyone brave enough to throw their card in the hat (or bike helmet!) and tell us how they are making Winchester better by bike. In no particular order, we heard from:
- Vicky Smith (Breeze, women-led cycle rides, Winchester)
- Claire Holt (Cycles4All, inclusive/community cycling based in Pavilion on the Park, Eastleigh)
- Abdullah Aslam (Exo bike hub, Winchester)
- Olly Moore and Phil Webb (Chase the Sun cycle events and Chasing the Sun film)
- Aaron Windebank (Chase Cycles)
- Paul Tugwell (Recycle Bike Hub, restoring and selling donated cycles, raising funds for Naomi House and Jacksplace)
- Amy Thorpe (VC Venta, not just racing, also social rides)
- Anna Herron, Sustainable Travel Officer, Sustrans/Winchester City Council)
- James Batho (St Barnabas Ward councillor, Winchester City Council)
- Andy Butler (Worthy Wheelers, rides for pleasure and exercise, designed to accommodate all types of cyclist)
- Ben Marsh (South Downs National Park rights of way and access officer)
- Max Priesemann (Winchester Green Party)
- Mary Kamara (tandem pilot for Charlotte’s tandems, providing tandems and tag-alongs to people with disabilities or additional needs)
- Chris Gillham (Friends of the Earth)
- Andy Key (Bicycle Beano, really special cycling holidays)
- Louise Snook (bikeability uk)
We don’t have consent from everyone to share email addresses, but if you are looking to make contact with someone you met on the evening, we can help broker a connection.
We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. Judging by attendees’ willingness to stay and chat, it was a welcome opportunity to make connections. We hope to make this a regular event; watch this space for details.
