Winchester Glow Ride 22 Oct 2026

Last year, thousands of people lit up the streets in 67 towns and cities across the UK as part of Cycling UK’s ‘My ride. Our right’ campaign.

This year Winchester joins the campaign and we’d love you to be part of it.

Glow rides are a colourful celebration of cycling that shine a light on the need for safer streets and better cycle routes, especially for women riding after dark. Together, we can show decision makers that more needs to be done to make cycling feel safe and accessible for everyone.

Women-led and open to everyone, glow rides are organised by local people and community groups across the UK.

Winchester’s ride takes place on Thursday 22 October. Meet at 5:45pm at the main entrance to Winchester Cathedral for departure at 6pm and return approx 7pm. No need to pre-register, just turn up. The route is approximately 4 miles via cycle path to Garnier Road and back via Kingsgate.

Light your bike with fairy lights, glow stocks or just regular lights. Dress code: As loud and colourful as you dare!

Children can join the ride but to make sure everyone is safe and the group stays together, we recommend:

  • Glow riders are aged 8+ and;
  • Have some experience of riding in a group and;
  • Are able to cycle around 4miles without stopping (it’ll be slow pace of around 10mph)

Please also note that under 18s will need an adult riding with them who is responsible for them at all times.
